I Can’t Come to Work, I Have Nothing to Wear
This week, I just can’t find anything to wear. Maybe it’s the change of season and I just need to go out and do some Fall shopping.
So it got me thinking: have you ever called in sick because you couldn’t find anything you wanted to wear? Come on, be honest; someone out there has! Or if not you, then someone you know.
While we’re on this subject, what is the most creative or unbelievable excuse you’ve ever heard for missing work? Mine: An employee couldn’t come in because he was locked in his garage.
Also, where you live, is it calling in, calling out, or calling off? Around here, it’s all the same; I guess any preposition will do when you don’t want to go to work.

p.s. Let me clarify, I am going to the office today, and I’m not advocating abandoning work for frivolous reasons!

Loving What You Do by Krista Ogburn Francis on September 10th, 2010
Did you know I was born in Nigeria and lived there until I was 18? Unfortunately, I frequently hear a lot of negative hype about my birth country--mostly concerning alleged schemes of corruption--so I am always happy to come across any happy news.

Many years ago, there was an employee that called out 4 separate days within 2 weeks because he said, “my wife had a baby” “my mother died” “I had bronchitis” and “I got hit by a car”. He could have been telling the truth, but there was no evidence of any type (no bruises, no coughing, no baby pictures) to support his reasons. It was weird. He quit soon after that. It reminded me of Klinger from M.A.S.H.

Paul, when employees start coming up with a string of reasons/excuses, it’s not usually a good sign. Especially when they start recycling them….
I have to admit being skeptical when an employee who had taken time off for a hysterectomy later became pregnant and had a miscarriage. Or, maybe that makes sense. It has to be tough to carry a baby with no uterus.
